Story

1991—1995


The group was formed in 1991. Initially, the group was called “Kutuzovsky Prospekt” in honor of the place where the group members grew up and lived. Afterwards it was renamed “Four Cockroaches”. The composition of the group changed several times. In 1992, the group released its first album, “Duty Free Songs,” which was distributed on cassette tapes among friends. After the departure of Denis Petukhov, the group begins to look for a new vocalist. Among the possible candidates was Nike Borzov, but his conscription into the army prevented him from taking a place at the microphone. After an unsuccessful search, the guys decide that Dmitry Spirin should sing. Alexander “Pep” Potapov was put on bass. With this lineup, in 1995, the album “Best Before...” was recorded, on which the song Freedom, played in an updated lineup, and “Turn”, a cover of the group “Time Machine,” are heard.

1995—2000


In 1996, the group participated in the “Learn to Swim” festival, played a live concert at the Moscow radio station “RaKurs”, and also played the role of act support for the groups “The Toy Dolls” and “The Stranglers”. In 1997, the album “Stole? Did you drink?! To jail!!!" and the group changes its name to “Cockroaches!” Konstantin Dementyev and Alexander Golant also joined the group, but later they left the group. Already in the third “Learn to Swim” festival, the group is participating with The Exploited group and will soon conduct an anti-drug concert tour of Moscow schools. In 1998, the album “No Landing” was recorded, and in December the video “Train towards Arbatskaya” was released. After Denis Rubanov left the group, Sergei Prokofiev joined the group as a drummer. In 1999, the group's live album, “This is Life,” was released, and in 2000 the group went on its first overseas tour. Also in April 2000, the album “Popkorm (We Taught the World to Suck)” was released. The group spent the spring and summer of 2000 on tour, and in August performed at the “Invasion” festival. By this time, a new member appeared in the group: Alexander Golant was replaced by Dmitry Kezhvatov.

2000s

In 2001, "Cockroaches!" released a split album with Japanese punk rock band Sobut called “Punk This Town/Real Punk?”

In 2002, the group released the album “Fear and Loathing.”

In 2003, the group “Cockroaches!” recorded the album “Freedom Street”.

In 2004, the musicians released the album “Rockets from Russia”.

In 2006, "Cockroaches!" They are making a split album together with the group “Distemper” “If the guys unite”, in which the musicians perform songs from each other’s repertoire.

2010s

On March 25, 2013, the band's twelfth studio album, MaximumHappy I, was released, which was recorded in Düsseldorf. Musicians from the groups “Die Ärzte” and “Anti-Flag”, as well as vocalist Lusine Gevorkyan, took part in the recording of the album. The singles from the album were the songs “Bags of Bones” and “5 Words”.

In June 2013, the musicians took part in the second rock festival “Ostrov” in the city of Arkhangelsk[1].

On September 2, 2013, the band's album MaximumHappy II was officially released.

On March 5, 2014, the first song in Ukrainian, “Svoboda Street” (from Ukrainian - “Freedom Street”) was released [2].

Biography

"Cockroaches!" is a famous rock band founded in 1991. The musicians’ popularity peaked in the 2000–2010s, when they performed at the most popular music festivals in Russia. Having lined up with teams like “The King and the Jester”, “My leg cramped!” and “Night Snipers”, they gained loyal listeners who still attend the group’s concerts today. The history of the development of the group is interesting in that the musicians were able to achieve demand among fans of punk music not only at home, but also abroad.

On the night of September 1, Kutuzov ordered the retreat of Russian troops through Moscow to the Ryazan road. The first troops moved into the night. From the entrance there is no smell, as before, of the alcoholic, fragrant smell of honey and poison, it does not bring from there the warmth of fullness, and the smell of emptiness and rot merges with the smell of honey. There is no longer that even and quiet sound, the fluttering of labor, similar to the sound of boiling, but the awkward, disjointed noise of disorder is heard. Black oblong robber bees, smeared with honey, timidly and evasively fly in and out of the hive; they do not sting, but escape from danger. Previously, they only flew in with burdens, and empty bees flew out, now they fly out with burdens. The beekeeper opens the bottom well and peers into the lower part of the hive. Instead of the previously black lashes of succulent bees, pacified by labor, holding each other’s legs and pulling the foundation with a continuous whisper of labor, sleepy, shriveled bees wander in different directions absent-mindedly along the bottom and walls of the hive.
