Last August there was an amazing review by comrade Svyazist on a very similar trap. Performance has been convincingly confirmed. Three hundred likes, one and a half hundred people wanting to buy. I myself got angry then and didn’t buy it only because in October I didn’t need a mosquito trap. But I made a note and at the end of April I ordered a slightly improved model. I have now re-read that review and I can confirm once again that the author did not lie with a single word. It's all true - and so is my trap. It's shining. Really ultraviolet. Attracts mosquitoes. Sucks in. It sucks inside. Is it true There is

Types of mosquito traps for outdoors
Outdoor mosquito killers are devices whose operating principle is based on the use of bait that imitates the odor of the human body, heat or water. The device lures the insect into a space from which the mosquito can no longer escape - there it dies from a potent toxic substance or simply from dehydration. Mosquito traps are divided into the following types:
- Thermal - they use heat as bait, which insects regard as a favorable factor for obtaining food and reproduction. The range of the device is up to 50 square meters.
- Aquatic - here, too, the bait is heat, which attracts insects. Approaching the trap, the insects find themselves in a strong stream of water from which they can no longer escape.
- Gas - the operating principle is based on simulating human breathing with the release of carbon dioxide. The replaceable gas cylinders release carbon dioxide into the air, which serves as a bait for insects - they fly towards the smell, where they are drawn in by a powerful fan.
- Ultraviolet - in appearance they resemble street lamps or heaters, the outer part of which is equipped with metal rods through which current passes. The device, connected to a power supply, lures insects with ultraviolet rays - they fly into the light, fall into an electric trap, where they die instantly.
- Insecticidal - equipped with special containers with bait inside. The bait contains a potent poison that kills insects.
Most modern outdoor insect killers on sale combine several methods of action. They attract mosquitoes with light, heat and gas at the same time, so it can be difficult to clearly identify the type of device. Various devices can use electricity, a solar battery or a regular battery as a power source. In addition to mosquitoes, outdoor insect traps also destroy midges, horseflies, wasps, hornets, and flies.

Thermal
Mosquito traps, which attract insects with heat, come in different configurations and are designed to kill mosquitoes in different areas. If you need a device for a gazebo or small yard, buy an inexpensive mosquito repellent from a well-known company. If you are looking for a mosquito repellent around the perimeter of your dacha for an area of 50 square meters or more, take a more powerful device.

Homemade traps
Self-made traps are much cheaper than purchased ones. You shouldn’t expect the same effective work from them, but no one forbids you to try to make a device.
The simplest design is made from an ordinary plastic bottle with a volume of 1.5–2 liters. The bait is a mixture of sugar, yeast and water. Mosquitoes are attracted to the heat generated during fermentation. Judging by the reviews on the Internet, the design is not particularly useful, and the smell from it is not very pleasant. The validity period of such a trap is 5–7 days.
The effect of homemade traps is incomparable with purchased devices - to reduce the mosquito population in the area, you will need a lot of such bottles
Video: how to make a mosquito trap from a plastic bottle
More useful is a homemade trap with water, which to a certain extent helps control the mosquito population in the area:
- Cut off the part with the neck from a 5-liter plastic bottle and paint it with black paint.
- Pour water inside and throw in a small bunch of grass or seaweed.
- Cover the top with fine mesh window mesh. It is advisable to keep it moist at all times.
- Place or hang traps.
This bottle is a fairly successful imitation of a dark, stagnant body of water, very suitable for breeding mosquitoes. Females lay their eggs directly on the net, and the hatching larvae immediately fall into the water and inevitably drown.
Homemade sticky tape helps catch mosquitoes (and other insects) only if you hang it near a light source that attracts them. On the street this is not possible everywhere. When making glue, keep in mind: the mixture is very difficult to wash off the skin, and if it gets on your clothes, it will be irrevocably damaged.
- Cut thick paper (for example, pieces of wallpaper) or fabric into ribbons 3–4 cm wide and up to 50 cm long.
- Prepare the glue by heating 200 g of rosin, 100 ml of castor oil, 50 ml of sugar syrup and the same amount of turpentine in a water bath. They need to be stirred constantly until a homogeneous mass is obtained. Another recipe is 300 g of resin from any coniferous tree, 150 ml of linseed oil, 50 g of liquid honey, 10 g of wax. Or 400 g of rosin, half as much petroleum jelly, half as much honey and 40 ml of glycerin. The glue is prepared in all cases according to the same principle.
- Using a brush, coat the ribbons with glue and hang them on the veranda near the open windows.
Advantages and disadvantages
A gas trap is one of the best outdoor mosquito repellents. Unlike fumigators, which only work for a certain time and are only suitable for indoor use, the gas trap has a longer period of action and is designed specifically for outdoors and large rooms. It is more powerful and has a larger area of influence.
The principle of operation of this street trap is to use bait that copies human breathing. This happens using a carbon dioxide cylinder onto which insects fly. Flying close to the device, they will be sucked in by the fan.
The advantage of choosing this type of insect trap is its optimal performance.
- Silence. The fan inside the mechanism is so quiet that the human ear cannot perceive it.
- No smell. Carbon dioxide used as bait does not smell, so this product is hypoallergenic.
- Tangible result. It can catch up to 1-1.5 thousand mosquitoes per night.
- Large area of action.
- Easy to maintain.
- The cost of this device will be fully recouped by its long service life and effective performance.
- Models are produced that do not operate from the mains, but from batteries or an accumulator.
- The battery power is enough for the entire season.
- Control occurs at the touch of a button.
- For convenient storage, the trap has a collapsible design.
The only disadvantage of such a trap is its high cost, but the effectiveness and duration of the result, as well as the durability of such a device, fully justify it.
Work principles
The design of a gas mosquito trap consists of a gas cylinder with carbon dioxide or propane, a thermal heater, a photocell, an attractant (a special agent that copies the smell of a person), a fan and a container where the captured insects fall.
The operating principle of the street trap is based on simulating human breath, which attracts insects. This happens with the help of a gas cylinder, which, when the device is heated, releases carbon dioxide, connecting with the attractant. Flying insects are sucked in by a fan, and they fall into a special bag, passing through an energized mesh along the way.
Inside the trap there is a reducer that maintains a certain level of operating pressure inside the cylinder, regardless of natural conditions.
Most models are equipped with an automatic shut-off sensor that is activated in daylight. At the end of the day, when the level of sunlight decreases, the device automatically turns on again.
A trap with a carbon dioxide cylinder is an effective protection against mosquitoes for the entire season of their activity.
Inner world
Under the white legs there are screws, 4 pcs. Unscrew and separate the receiving chamber. The bayonet fastening of the cover is clearly visible.
And this is the rest of the part, the cone-shaped grille is visible. Let's continue.
By unscrewing the grille, a 5-bladed Carlson is visible.
5 blades, of course, are not the most optimal design for silent operation. But in the end the noise was acceptable, the wife and children fell asleep and did not complain. Looking ahead a little - Carlson's markings. The diameter of the blades, by the way, is about 105 mm.
Returning to the disassembly. Remove the top white chandelier.
And the entrance grille. We see 8 pieces of UV LEDs. I checked that they were UV by slipping in a protected document, what should be glowing is glowing.
We open the chandelier body. Green side with photoresistor, touch button and RGB LED.
The microcircuit is marked as HOLTEX BS83B08A-3 B744Y0006G2 Description. Datasheet. Beige side with LEDs.
I would say it was done neatly, the wires do not dangle, they are fixed in regular places. The board is marked March 2022. You can criticize Carlson's choice - there are many quieter ones for computers. But they don't cost a dollar a bag.
Where to install the shredder?
There is nothing complicated about installing a portable gas trap for insects; you can do it yourself. Before installing this device outdoors, it is necessary to determine the place where the largest concentration of mosquitoes is located.
It must be placed between the place where they breed (high grass, pond, bushes) and the place where people are. In this case, the insects are destroyed before they even reach you.
The distance at which the trap should be placed is about 10 meters from a crowd of people. It is also necessary to take into account the direction of the wind.
The device should be placed so that the wind blows the gas towards the mosquito habitat.
If your site is not on a flat surface, it is better to choose a hill to place the trap.
Bloodsuckers do not like sunlight, so it is better to place the device in the shade. And also for the best operation of the device, it must be installed on a level place without tall grass, so that the gas can spread unhindered around the area.
The trap is designed to withstand a variety of weather conditions, but the automatic watering system may damage it if water enters the side of the trap.
The smartest system tested.
— when the power is turned on, the ISS releases a portion of gas and begins to heat the body to a temperature of 35-40 degrees within 2 minutes
- then the fan is turned on for 1.5 minutes, which is designed to suck in mosquitoes that were attracted by the heated housing and a portion of carbon dioxide.
— after this, a portion of gas is released, the housing begins to heat up and a new cycle is repeated.
The rest of the traps operate linearly and constantly - the fan is constantly spinning, gas is constantly flowing out, etc.
Are electric exterminators effective against insects?
Electric lamp exterminators actually provide the ability to kill flying insects indoors quite effectively, as long as the device is chosen based on the size of the area that needs to be protected.
With constant updating of the bait and a small number of cockroaches, the electric exterminator-house also shows excellent results, but a significant effect of reducing the population may not appear immediately, but only after a few days.
But against ants, this electronic trap, as a rule, turns out to be not very effective, since it destroys only working insects that are looking for something to profit from, while the queen in the anthill actively continues to lay new larvae.
It is also necessary to take into account that if there are a significant number of midges, for example, on the veranda in the evening, even a very powerful lamp-based electronic exterminator will not be able to cope, and you will still be bitten by mosquitoes - in this case, it can be useful to combine electronic exterminators with repellent drugs or products, for example , anti-mosquito coils.
Bedbug Executioner: reviews, product description and instructions
As for electronic fumigators, in general, they do a good job of their main task, destroying flying insects indoors. And if you turn on this fumigator in a closed cabinet, it can help get rid of not only moths, but also their eggs. But fumigators most often have almost no effect on house ants, fleas, cockroaches and, especially, bedbugs.
Appearance
From a design point of view, it's great. The previous model was unprepossessing, this one is impressive. There is a brush for cleaning the corpses of bloodsuckers.
Black and white option, choose the desired style. A hatch was made at the bottom for unloading corpses. Bottom view - rotate the bottom cover a few degrees. The compartment cover is on a bayonet hook, lift it up.
After removing the cover, the receiving chamber is visible. I want to draw your attention to the central hole. You can fly a mosquito through it. True, the hole is located at the top of the cone, deepened into the receiving chamber, similar to the tops for catching fish. Which makes rescue difficult. In any case, as long as the fan is blowing, it does not allow mosquitoes to escape.
Automatic switch on in the dark, switchable.
Equipped with a touch button and a photoresistor. The photoresistor is turned off simply and effectively - we plug it with a lid.
When you press the power button successively, the color of the LED changes in a circle. Off - red - blue - green. At the same time, the fan noise seems to be slightly reduced. But even at night I poked and wouldn’t let my hand be cut off, that it was shrinking so much, and this was not my self-hypnosis. The manual doesn't say anything about speed control.
Scope of application of traps and exterminators
As application experience and customer reviews show, it is advisable to install destroyer lamps and electric traps in the following cases:
- in cafes and restaurants, on terraces, warehouses, in office premises or in the kitchen;
- on livestock farms to protect animals from midge bites;
- at dachas and personal plots to reduce the number of mosquitoes, gadflies and other flying garden pests;
- in warehouses to combat food moths.
On a note!
Unfortunately, outdoor traps and exterminators have absolutely no effect on cockroaches, fleas and crawling insects, even when installed on the floor. UV light does not attract them, but rather scares them.
How to choose the right repeller?
The repeller can work with ultrasound or be sonic. If you choose a specific device, then you need to take into account the area in which it will be used. Although a key fob repeller or mobile devices can be used anywhere. To enhance the repelling effect, the correct combination of the type of protection and the power of the device is required. Cost can significantly influence the choice of device. But you don’t need to rely heavily on it, since high cost does not indicate the quality and efficiency of the device.
The most important characteristic of the choice is the operating radius of the device. The main thing is that the device works effectively at the required distance. In this case, there is no specific relationship between price and efficiency. We can only say for sure that the more expensive the device, the more attractive it will be in appearance.
At the same time, it is necessary to understand that the idea of using ultrasound against mosquitoes was very popular with numerous dishonest businessmen, who began to manufacture thousands of useless counterfeits for effective ultrasonic devices. Alas, it is almost impossible to really find out whether the device is working or not. Therefore, do not let yourself be deceived and purchase only high-quality mosquito protection devices!
Delivery and packaging
Shipped May 02, 2022, received May 16.
Full track Transport packaging - extremely weak - gray PE bag. Therefore, commercial packaging took on all the stress from dealing with Russian Post. It was wrinkled, but retained the contents. Very good packaging, well designed. At the top and bottom there are squares of foamed PE. There is a lot of space between the inside of the box and the contents. To damage it you have to crush it very hard.
Additional Information
The best mosquito traps for outdoors
Propane traps are considered the most effective. Propane entering the catalytic burner releases carbon dioxide and moisture. Everything is formed naturally, literally before your eyes. All that remains is to add bait - and the mosquitoes will not fly past. It is recommended to install such traps between the house and the place where insects live permanently. The distance from the house must be at least 4 meters.
How do outdoor propane mosquito traps work?
First, let's figure out how we attract the attention of mosquitoes:
- CO2: Humans inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide, which is the strongest natural attractant for mosquitoes. Mosquitoes smell it at a distance of 20 m and rush to their source. The result is bites, itching and a ruined weekend.
- The warmth and smell of the human body. It is known that body thermoregulation is a constant process that leads to sweating and heat removal from the surface of the skin. Sweat is eliminated through sweat glands located throughout the body. We may not notice it, but mosquitoes sense everything and fly to the smell.
Thus, the main task of propane traps is to divert the attention of mosquitoes from humans and attract them to the trap. How is this possible? By releasing CO2 and using special baits for the trap. Mosquitoes die quickly without water, so they don’t have long to live in a trap!
It is recommended to install the device between the house and places such as a lake, pond, swamp, etc. Remember the distance to the house is at least 4 m! Provided the device is positioned correctly, it will serve as a barrier between insects and people.
Remember! The most important thing is to start the propane trap at the right time! Turn them on early in the mosquito season and you will have a better chance of interrupting the mosquito reproductive cycle and reducing the number of mosquitoes on your property.
Pros of propane traps:
- In addition to mosquitoes, they catch midges and other biting insects.
- Many models perform a number of tasks: they emit CO2, emit heat, i.e., they imitate the life processes of the human body and thus attract more mosquitoes.
- You can choose a wired or wireless model.
- The propane trap is easy to install and use.
Cons of propane traps:
- Propane is quite an expensive consumable (one cylinder will last only 3-4 weeks).
- Propane is not included and must be purchased separately.
When choosing a propane trap, consider its capacity/coverage area, price, and feeding method. However, you don’t have to bother yourself much with searching. We studied traps from different manufacturers, reviews on markets and sales statistics and selected the best for you.
Mosquito Magnet® Pioneer Mosquito Killer
Executive is the most powerful and expensive (approx. 53 thousand rubles) model in the Magnet family. The remaining models - Independence, Patriot, Defender and LIberty - are much cheaper.
Users report a significant reduction in the number of mosquitoes. For people with allergies, this trap may be the only possible way to eliminate mosquitoes. It is also important that this is a wireless device – it is powered by rechargeable batteries.
Otherwise, this is a typical high-end trap. What disadvantages do users note? First, it requires a lot of maintenance (like any other trap): replacing propane tanks, cleaning the tank, keeping the unit weatherproof, etc. Also, according to many customers, the material of the device leaves much to be desired: they expected something more than plastic.
Price: 30,000 rub.
Electric trap Flowtron Mosquito PowerTrap MT
Flowtron is also a very famous American manufacturer of traps. Users compare this model with traps from other manufacturers and have noticed that Flowtron is safe, reliable and works better than other devices. Plus, this model uses all sorts of baits to attract mosquitoes: CO2, chemicals, sticky strips, heat generation, flashing lights, suction -> more chances for a big catch!
We found only one minus. Some users are annoyed by the flashing lights of the trap.
Price: 26,500 rub.
Total
The trap honestly shines with ultraviolet light, sucks in mosquitoes and even makes quite a moderate noise.
In any case, my wife and children fell asleep calmly under this light hum of the fan. And if there is nothing attractive besides the trap, then mosquitoes are quite attracted to it. But they are even more attracted to a living sleeping person. Stupid mosquitoes, what can we do with them? As Anton Pavlovich wrote, insects are creatures and nothing more. The product was provided for writing a review by the store. The review was published in accordance with clause 18 of the Site Rules.
Best Heat Traps for Mosquitoes
Heat traps are very complex and expensive. They imitate a variety of signs of human activity. The main attraction in this case is the pulsating heat emanating from the device. An infrared “heat gun” hits a distance of 20 to 50 meters. Hence the record coverage of the area (up to 1.5-2 acres in ideal weather conditions). Many manufacturers add “will-o’-the-wisp” LED lights to the heat gun, which also attract insects, and products that imitate the odor of the human body. All this allows them to raise the price tags for heat traps up to 1000 bucks. Although, of course, you can find cheaper options.
Mega-Catch Mosquito Trap
For example, the thermal combined trap Mega-Catch™ Pro 900 PREMIER Mosquito Trap. This is the simplest trap from the Mega-Catch series. Its price is about 22 thousand rubles, and the working area is 3/4 of an acre (3000 m2). The Premier shoots heat up to 30m and is equipped with a dynamic UV light source. It comes with both a mosquito net and a container with liquid. You can choose how you want to kill mosquitoes. The reliability of the set is indicated by the one-year warranty from the manufacturer. As a bonus to the device, you can use aromatic strips that attract most winged bloodsuckers.
From the photographs it may seem that the Mega-Catch™ Pro 900 PREMIER is huge and heavy, but this is not so. Real users claim that in real life it looks much more compact. True, they also complain about some difficulties in working with the device: its multifunctionality sometimes confuses people... Commentators complain about difficulties with placing and creating baits during “liquid hunting”, as well as confusing timer settings.
However, dozens of users positively assessed the performance of the device and called it a good buy.

Stinger Indoor Insect Trap
The eco-friendly device is equipped with a replaceable UV lamp and a fan. The retractable container is easy to clean to remove dehydrated mosquitoes. This procedure must be performed at least once a month. The price of an effective device is within 2 thousand rubles.
Terminator 4 QK889
The trap and killer of mosquitoes and flies is made in China, has dimensions of 210x315 mm, and is shaped like a lamp that can be placed or hung. Equipped with a battery (charges within 10-12 hours), designed for 12 hours of operation, which allows you to use the mosquito repellent outdoors, and is also connected to the mains. The kit includes an AC adapter for charging the battery and a brush for cleaning the mesh from dead animals.
Operating principle: an electroshock exterminator that lures midges and mosquitoes using a built-in UV lamp, and then destroys them when they hit the grid with a current discharge at a voltage of 1200 V. Used only in rooms with a roof to prevent moisture from getting inside. Price 4200 rub.
Mega-Catch ULTRA Mosquito Trap (MCU-900)
Here is a more advanced and even more complex version of the mosquito killer from Mega-Catch.
It costs as much as 62 thousand rubles. and resembles a killer robot. One and a half acres of coverage, several programmable modes and an adaptive timer, 5 fan speeds and even the ability to self-diagnosis... what's not there! The developers even managed to build a CO2 cylinder into the “Ultra” (supposedly this increased the efficiency of the device by 300-400%). True, the kit comes empty - the cylinder must be filled in your city, because transporting such gas is very, very dangerous. The instructions say that the settings for thermal and light radiation are so fine that the device can be “set” on literally any type of mosquito. There is also a funny “one-button start” function - as if we were looking at a sports car or a supercomputer!
Did the guys from Mega-Catch manage to create the perfect trap for such a high price? Almost! We came across only a few negative reviews. And those in the style of “works well, but you need to buy spare parts too often.” True, there are not so many good reviews: so far not many people have decided to make such an expensive purchase!
Shredder SK 800
This device is manufactured by the Australian company Smartkiller and is intended for all types of flying insects. It can effectively get rid of midges over an area of up to 150 m².
The exterminator uses 3 technologies to attract insects. By imitating human breathing and body temperature, the device attracts midges. A built-in fan sucks mosquitoes and midges inside the device.
The SK 800 exterminator is effective against insects.
Operation of the device is possible only if it can be connected to a 220 V electrical network. And since there is no gas cylinder in the trap, it can be used not only on the street, but also in a residential area.
Specification
Stated principle of operation: UV attraction of insects.
Suction into a trap by a fan. Physical drying with air flow Automatic switching on in the dark, switching off during daylight Input voltage: DC5V Power: 3 W Material: ABS + Metal Color: black, white Service area: up to 80 sq. m.
