Russian (AVZ) develops and produces medicines for domestic and farm animals. It produces insectoacaricidal products: sprays, shampoos, collars. An effective drug is “Bars” - drops against fleas and ticks for cats, the instructions for which must be studied before using the medicine. There is a product for treating kittens. It has a softer effect. "Leopard" kills not only adult ectoparasites, but also their larvae. The drug is also used to prevent infection.
Composition and pharmacological properties.
The drug contains fipronil, diflubenzuron - an insect growth regulator and excipients, including citronella essential oil. It has pronounced insectoacaricidal activity against larval and mature phases of development of fleas, lice, lice, ixodid and sarcoptic ticks, and also has a repellent effect.
After cutaneous application of the drug, fipronil and diflubenzuron, which are included in its composition, are practically not absorbed into the systemic bloodstream, accumulate in the epidermis, hair follicles and sebaceous glands of the animal’s body and have a long-term contact and intestinal insectoacaricidal effect.
The mechanism of action of fipronil is to disrupt the transmission of nerve impulses, which leads to paralysis and death of insects and ticks. The insect growth regulator disrupts the synthesis of chitin in parasites and thus breaks their life cycle.
Advantages and disadvantages
Medicine cannot be completely harmless. It has both pros and cons. It must be used if the animal has ectoparasites or is likely to become infected with them. The insectoacaricidal agent is well tolerated by dogs and cats if used correctly.
The following advantages of drops for cats “Bars” are highlighted:
- high efficiency;
- ease of application;
- low level of toxicity;
- innovative formula with a wide spectrum of action;
- the ability to dose the medicine depending on the weight of the animal;
- low concentration of active components;
- synergy of active ingredients (strengthening each other);
- prolonged action (protection up to 2.5 months).
The disadvantages of the drug are:
- risk of overdose;
- presence of contraindications;
- unpleasant odor;
- the need for re-treatment in case of severe infection;
- the likelihood of animals licking drops.
Poisoning of cats with an insectoacaricidal agent is possible. This happens with individual intolerance to the components or overdose. Therefore, before treating your pet, you must take into account all the pros and cons of the medicine.
Doses and order of application.
Apply by droplet application to dry, intact skin once. The duration of the protective effect of the drug lasts for 1–2 months.
The drug is applied to places inaccessible to licking by animals: on the skin at several points in the back, between the shoulder blades or in the neck at the base of the skull in doses indicated in the table.
Taking into account the type and weight of the animal being treated, dropper pipettes of the required volume or combinations thereof are selected and the drug is used in the doses indicated in the table.
Type of animal, weight | Dose per animal: drug, ml/active ingredients, mg Volume/number of pipettes used |
Bars Forte drops for kittens against fleas and ticks: | |
Up to 1 kg | 0.5 ml/5 mg fipronil, 0.5 mg diflubenzuron 0.5 ml/ 1 pipette |
Repeated treatments of animals are carried out according to indications, but not more than once a month.
In order to prevent re-infestation by fleas, the animals' bedding is replaced or treated with an insecticidal agent in accordance with the instructions for its use.
To destroy ixodid ticks on the body of an animal, the drug in the amount of 1 drop is applied to the tick and the place of its attachment to the skin. If within 20-30 minutes the tick does not fall off spontaneously, then it is carefully pulled out of the body with tweezers and destroyed.
You should not wash or bathe the animal in natural bodies of water for 48 hours after treatment, or apply the drug to wet or damaged skin.
Contraindications for use
Bars drops are a safe drug that has a minimum number of contraindications. The following are restrictions on use:
- The cat is up to 10 weeks old (in this case, it is recommended to pay attention to the special Bars for kittens, which contains a lower concentration of the active ingredient).
- Individual allergic reactions to the main or auxiliary components of the product.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding period.
- Animals with poor functioning of the immune system and the presence of infectious pathologies (in this case, the concomitant disease must first be treated).
If after the procedure vomiting begins, which is accompanied by elevated body temperature and trembling in the limbs, it is important to wash the animal’s skin with soap and water as soon as possible. If a serious allergic reaction is observed, contact your veterinarian - he will prescribe modern antihistamines to eliminate this side effect.
Spray leopard for cats: instructions for use
- Spray treatment is carried out outdoors; if this is not possible, it is necessary to ensure good ventilation of the room: open all windows and vents. If there are cages with birds or aquariums in the house, they must first be removed from the premises.
- To prevent licking of the drug, you need to put a muzzle on the cat or another device that can perform the same function.
- Shake the spray bottle thoroughly and, holding it in a vertical position, begin to spray the product onto the cat’s body at a distance of about 30 cm.
- In order for the Bars flea spray for cats to be effective, it is necessary to ensure uniform application throughout the animal’s body. If the cat has long hair, you can lift it slightly with your hand so that the product gets onto the skin at the base of the hair.
- The dose of the drug is calculated based on the following proportion: 0.5-1 ml per kilogram of animal weight. 0.5 ml of the substance is contained in one click on the head of the bottle.
- We must not forget to also treat the animal’s head, after covering the cat’s eyes and ears. 20 minutes after treatment with the product, the coat should be thoroughly combed.
- Repeated treatments can be carried out at intervals of at least a month. In addition to the animal’s body itself, sprays are also used to treat its habitats: bedding, blankets, and other household items.
“For me, this Bars spray has become the optimal solution, now I use it all the time. During the entire period there were no ticks or fleas. Among the main advantages I can highlight ease of use, the ability to process cat’s things, it has a fairly long-lasting effect and an adequate price.”
Thus, we can conclude that Bars products are an effective and safe drug for animals that protects against major ectoparasites, and is also very convenient and easy to use. Bars anti-tick spray and drops for cats, reviews of which are mostly positive, will provide reliable protection for your pet.

BARS FORTE – drops for kittens against ticks, fleas, lice and lice pack. 3 AVZ pipettes (1 piece)
BARS is a Russian trademark, which since 1993 has been developing and producing medicines for animals.
COMPOSITION AND FORM OF RELEASE
Insect-acaricidal drops Bars Forte contain fipronil and an insect growth regulator, as well as excipients as active ingredients. In appearance they are a transparent, oily, yellow liquid with a pleasant aromatic odor. 1 ml is packaged in polymer dropper pipettes, which are packed in cardboard boxes of 3 pieces.
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Insecto-acaricidal drops Bars Forte have a detrimental effect on larvae and mature ticks of the Ixodidae family, Sarcoptes cati, Cheyletiella jascuri and Notoedres cati ticks and insects Linognathus setosus, Trichodectes canis and Ctenocephalides felis. The high insecticidal and acaricidal activity of the drops is due to the presence of fipronil and an insect growth regulator in their composition. The mechanism of action of fipronil is to block the GABA-dependent receptors of the parasite and disrupt neuromuscular transmission, which leads to its paralysis and death. The insect growth regulator inhibits the processes of chitin formation, disrupts the processes of molting, pupation and fledging of the parasite. In terms of the degree of impact on the body of warm-blooded animals, the drug is classified as a moderately dangerous substance and in recommended doses does not have a teratogenic, embryotoxic or locally irritating effect.

The duration of the protective effect is: against ticks - 4 weeks; against fleas - 3 months. The repeated procedure should be carried out no more than once a month. In order to prevent re-infestation, the animal's bedding should be replaced or treated with an insecticidal acaricidal spray in accordance with the instructions for use.

Feedback from cat owners
Fleas are an inevitable evil for our cat. He spends most of his time in the apartment, and in the summer we go to the dacha together. We don’t wear a flea collar, otherwise local cats will immediately find a weak spot. Once there was an unpleasant incident. Now only insectoacaricidal drops. We found BARS for ourselves and drip it onto the withers - literally the next day there are no more parasites, which is also good for preventive purposes. However, the instructions for use say that it should last for 2 months. Our fleas return a little earlier, so next summer we will try BARS forte. Alexey, 23 years old
A cat came into the yard. Of course, we feed them. There is no way to take it home. But we try to make life easier as best we can. The first days they thought that her coloring was original: red with black undercoat. Then they realized that it was infested with fleas. We bought the drug BARS. It’s very convenient - you apply the drops to the withers, no need to rub in. The cat doesn't even think about resistance. After two weeks it became much tidier, and we found potential owners. Katya, 25 years old
Cats slip out into the entrance whenever possible. They always return, but with “freeloaders.” We worm regularly and treat for insects. Flea drops for cats are very helpful. Considering that the youngest kitten is three months old, we even give him a drop. The instructions say that BARS for kittens can be used from 2 months. It removes insects as if by hand, so I keep a supply at home. BARS against fleas is very effective. Valentina Nikolaevna, 38 years old
In what cases should drops not be used?
Despite the relative safety, the drops contain poison of the third toxicity category. If the body is weakened, the product will harm the pet’s health. Application is not indicated in the following cases:
- individual intolerance to components,
- up to two weeks old
- the presence of infectious diseases,
- poor health and stage of recovery,
- pregnancy and lactation period.
You should also not apply drops to damaged areas or wet skin. To avoid overdose, it is prohibited to use Bars together with other antiparasitic drugs.
Flea Drops Application Guide
The medicine is distributed throughout the fat layer, which is located on top of the skin.
Therefore, the animal cannot be bathed 3 days before and 3 days after treatment. Otherwise, the fat layer may be washed away, the drops will have nothing to distribute or they will be washed away.
For cats, flea treatment is applied in the following order:
- The pipette is opened. To do this, its tip is broken or cut off with scissors.
- The fur on the withers is parted with your fingers to provide access to the skin. In this case, the animal’s head should be fixed.
- The required amount of the drug is applied to the withers. For cats of large breeds, medicine is also dripped between the shoulder blades.
- The area to which the drug was applied is well massaged. This helps the drops absorb faster and distribute evenly.
Before applying the medicine, you need to make sure that the fur is dry and clean, and that there are no wounds, scratches, etc. on the skin. Otherwise, the pet will be in pain and allergic reactions are possible.
If it snows or rains, then the animal should not be allowed outside for 5 hours from the moment of treatment. The drops will not yet have time to be completely absorbed, so they may wash off.
For 3 weeks after treatment, it is not recommended to bathe the cat using shampoo, soap, etc. Washing may weaken the protective effect of the insectoacaricidal agent.
