Insecticidal smoke bombs against fleas for residential and non-residential premises

A smoke bomb for fleas in the house helps destroy parasitic insects. When choosing, carefully study the direction of action of the insecticide, since some products are designed to destroy other types of pests.

A smoke bomb will help get rid of parasitic insects in the house.

Effect of insecticidal smoke on fleas

Smoke bombs contain substances toxic to insects: permethrin, sulfur dioxide. The device allows you to distribute toxins throughout the room. Active compounds penetrate even small cracks, so parasites cannot survive.

Once on the body of a flea, the insecticide kills the adult. To get rid of her offspring, you will have to repeat the procedure. The larvae are protected by a shell that does not allow toxins to pass through, so insecticidal smoke will not kill them.

Where do fleas grow and where do they come from?

Most often, fleas bother our customers in private houses and apartments - these are the two most common problems. Less often, clients complain about the presence of fleas in basements, cellars, and outbuildings (garages, sheds, production areas, etc.). The most common cause of fleas in a home is basements. Due to dampness, they actively reproduce and crawl into houses. On the Internet you can find “a million” different means and methods to combat fleas. I’ll immediately leave links to what we previously published on our website dezbox.ru:

Reasons for the appearance of fleas in an apartment (house), what to do

And in this article we will look at another effective way to combat fleas - this is control using insecticidal smoke bombs. There are many of these on the market, but we will tell you about checkers that we have personally tested in different conditions.

More information about smoke bombs can be found here - Insect smoke bombs: how they work and where is best to use them?

What's included

The composition of the checkers may vary. The most commonly used active components are the following compounds:

  1. Sulfur dioxide. A strong toxic substance is released when burned. Sulfur bombs destroy not only fleas. Such products are considered universal because they are used to get rid of all types of insects.
  2. Permethrin. The substance kills fleas upon contact with the chitinous integument of the pest or upon entry into the digestive system. Permethrin causes paralysis of the nervous system of flying and crawling insects, causing their death. May be used for residential premises, hangars, warehouses of any size.
  3. Didecyldimethylammonium bromide. This substance has little effect on fleas. Most often used to destroy fungus and bacteria.

Didecyldimethylammonium bromide is one of the components of a smoke bomb.

Sulfur checkers

Sulfur dioxide and sulfurous acid (it is formed when sulfur smoke comes into contact with water) contribute to the elimination of bacterial and fungal infections, insect pests, their larvae, and mold.

Sulfur is ineffective in the case of viral diseases.

The following conditions are optimal for fumigation:

  • air temperature – from +15°С;
  • air humidity – at least 60%.

Sulfur dioxide is a toxic, caustic substance. You cannot be in the room during fumigation. Feeders and drinkers must be removed from the chicken coop. The smoldering process, depending on air humidity, takes 30-80 minutes. The room is left closed for a day, then it is ventilated until the smell disappears (at least 2 days are required). There are two types of checkers on sale:

  • pressed (“Climate” from);
  • bulk (“PESHKA-S” from MK “Peri”).

"Climate"

1 tablet weighing 30 g is enough to treat an area of 1 cubic meter. The concentration of the active substance is 750 g/kg. The effect is achieved within 3-6 hours, it lasts 8-12 days.

Smoke oxidizes metal - metal objects that cannot be removed from the room are lubricated with thick grease or painted.

"PAWN-S"

“PESHKA-S” is a bulk type product. It is less aggressive towards metal (does not cause oxidation). Consumption – 400 g/250 cubic meters.

Where are they used?

The devices can be used to process any space. It is not necessary to spray the insecticide indoors. The active ingredients will kill fleas even outdoors.

For residential buildings, it is better to take permethrin-based checkers. They do not stain furniture and do not react with metals. In addition, such products have a weaker smell and will not cause neighbors to call the fire department.

Varieties with sulfur dioxide are recommended for use in industrial and warehouse areas.

Checkers based on pyrethroids

Pyrethroids (permethrin, α-cypermethrin) are used to kill ectoparasites of farm animals.

"PAWN-B"

The active ingredient is cypermethrin (an insectoacaricidal agent). 1 checker weighing 50 g is designed for an area of 200-250 cubic meters. Acceptable conditions of use:

  • temperature – +10…+30°С;
  • humidity – up to 85%.

The active substance destroys Persian, argas, chicken mites, and feather eaters. The premises must be cleared of poultry and equipment. 3-4 hours after the end of smoking, the chicken coop should be well ventilated (at least 2 hours are required).

"Fomor-Vet"

"Fomor-Vet" is another product based on cypermethrin. A block weighing 50 g is enough to process 100 cubic meters. area. Exposure – at least 2 hours. At this time, the bird is kicked out of the chicken coop. Chickens can be returned to the room 2 hours after completion of treatment (this time is spent on ventilation). The dishes need to be disinfected with a soda solution.

"Vortex"

The product is based on permethrin. It is used to kill more than 30 types of insects, including chicken parasites. Based on 40-60 cubic meters, 100 g of bulk type product is consumed - the required amount of the substance is placed in a non-flammable container. Set it on fire using a strip of paper. The treatment is carried out in the absence of birds. The equipment is removed from the premises. Ventilation begins 4 hours after the end of smoking.

General instructions for use

Place the product in the center of the room. If the jar was not included with the checker, find a suitable container and place the tablet or powder inside. Use ceramic tiles or bricks as a stand. Light the fuse, then immediately leave the room. Return to the apartment in 2-3 hours. Repeat the procedure after 14 days.

Preparing the room for processing

First close all windows, turn off ventilation and the fire alarm sensor. Remove food and personal belongings. Take houseplants out of the house. No pets or people should remain in the apartment during treatment.

Ventilation after treatment

The treated area must be thoroughly ventilated. Open all windows and leave for several hours. Wet clean the room and wipe down the baseboards. Be sure to treat the furniture.

After treatment, the room must be well ventilated.

General processing rules

Checkers based on α-cypermethrin, permethrin or sulfur are allowed to be used only in empty chicken coops - chickens must be temporarily relocated to another room. If the instructions specify a short exposure time for the substance, the bird can be left outside. The chicken coop is prepared for processing:

  • cracks are sealed to prevent smoke loss;
  • surfaces are inspected, loose plaster is removed, walls are swept;
  • remove old bedding and sweep the floor;
  • the remaining food is thrown away, feeders, drinkers and other equipment are washed in a soda solution (200 g/7-8 l);
  • metal surfaces are burned using a blowtorch or gas torch.

Doors, windows, ventilation openings are closed. The checkers are evenly distributed throughout the room (their number depends on the processing area). They are set on fire one by one, starting with the one farthest from the exit. The flame is knocked down. If smoke does not begin to emit, the ignition is repeated. After all the checkers have been used, the room is left.

Checkers are placed on a non-flammable surface at least half a meter from any flammable objects.

After completion of fumigation, wait the time specified by the manufacturer and carry out ventilation. Then technical cleaning of the room is carried out.

Typically, smoke treatment is carried out in cycles. If even after this the result turns out to be unsatisfactory, then sanitary repairs are carried out - the cracks on all surfaces are sealed with clay, the chicken coop is whitewashed with chalk.

Security measures

When working with smoke bombs, follow safety precautions:

  1. Leave the apartment immediately after lighting the fuse.
  2. Be sure to warn your neighbors before using insecticide. The smell can penetrate into the entrance or into nearby apartments.
  3. Place clothes in airtight containers. If this is not possible, wash the items thoroughly after treatment.
  4. Do not eat, drink or smoke while using the device. Do not light a fire during processing.

Which saber to choose to fight against fleas indoors?

According to the editors of the site dezbox.ru, any of the checkers can be used against fleas, it is impossible to say which is better or worse, you just need to take into account such parameters as the mass of one checker and its concentration of DV. And remember that the manufacturer almost always inflates the figures in the technical specifications. For example, if the instructions say it is designed to treat a room of up to 100 m3, then in practice it is 50 m3, it is better to have a reserve. Let these little bastards receive a large dose of the poisonous substance.

Another recommendation is to always try to determine the breeding ground or understand where fleas are coming from indoors. It happens that fleas are poisoned indoors, but the basement is not treated, and the breeding ground is in the basement, so you need to get to the root of the problem and cut it at the root! In this situation, treat the basement.

Rating of smoke bombs of different brands

When choosing a product, check out the list of the best ones:

  1. "Climate". Used for processing greenhouses and greenhouses. In addition to fleas, it destroys lice, ticks, and fungus. The price of the product is 70 rubles.
  2. "Fas." The disadvantage of the composition is the strong odor. The cost of the device is 50 rubles.
  3. "Quiet evening". The product repels pests even in open areas. Used for processing industrial facilities. Costs 400-500 rubles.

Reviews about disinfestation

The majority of responses are positive. Users like the short duration of smoke bombs. They rid the room of fleas in three hours.

Users express their dissatisfaction in negative reviews, complaining about the need to repeat the procedure. Supposedly the fleas do not die at once, but in reality this is not the case. All adult individuals are destroyed immediately, but after 10-14 days other parasites appear - those that were in an embryonic state during the first disinfestation.

Some people prefer flea smoke bombs to products that act not immediately, but over a long period of time, killing ectoparasites constantly. For example, ultrasonic repellers. However, such devices have a lot of negative feedback, and professional disinfectors do not consider them productive.

The use of smoke bombs against fleas at home is justified only if pets are simultaneously treated for ectoparasites. Disinfestation of the animal's sleeping area, upholstered furniture and carpeting is important.

Description

Cliodesiv (Kliodeziw) is a medicinal product for use in the form of a fumigation aerosol, intended for the treatment of respiratory diseases of farm animals, sanitization of indoor air in the presence of animals and disinfection of veterinary supervision facilities. It is a light to dark brown powder with visually distinguishable iodine particles. During thermal sublimation (easily ignites from a match, lighter and other sources of fire) of the Cliodesiv product, vapors of crystalline iodine are released from violet to light brown. Due to convection currents, iodine is evenly distributed throughout the entire volume of the room being treated.

Types, scope, pros and cons

Smoke bombs differ in their level of toxicity, based on which they are divided into groups:

  • products for use in open spaces;
  • substances developed for treating premises (residential, industrial).

If the wrong product is used, the effectiveness level may decrease. Scope of checkers:

  • agriculture: greenhouses, summer cottages, etc.;
  • warehouses, hangars;
  • garages;
  • residential buildings;
  • basements.

The main advantage of a smoke bomb is its high efficiency in the fight against insects, including fleas. This is due to the ability of the gaseous substance to penetrate into remote areas and crevices where a person cannot reach on his own. The smoke envelops pieces of furniture, including woven upholstery of sofas, armchairs, etc. However, the substance does not stain soft materials. After treatment there are no stains or other traces left.

The smoke bomb is the leader among all existing means in terms of destruction speed. Even treating an object with some of the most effective drugs (sprays, aerosols) requires some time. The smoke bomb must be left in the room and left immediately. It is prohibited to be in the room where gaseous substance treatment is being carried out if protective equipment is not available.

Such means also have disadvantages. For example, as smoke spreads, the fire protection system at the facility is sometimes activated. For this reason, checkers are not used where it is not possible to at least temporarily disable it. In addition, neighbors may mistake a curtain of smoke for the consequences of a starting fire.

There is a more serious drawback of such products - they do not destroy flea eggs, so after a while you will have to repeat the procedure. Most drugs operate on the same principle: primary treatment destroys adults, repeated distribution of the toxic substance kills offspring. The fact is that insect embryos are very well protected from external factors by a dense shell that does not allow liquids, gases and other substances to pass through.

How to use?

Using smoke bombs is very simple. At the preparatory stage, it is mandatory to remove small children, plants and pets from the apartment. If the aquarium cannot be taken anywhere, then it will be enough to cover it with a thick film. All products, dishes, linen and textiles are packed in plastic bags. The same should be done with clothes and toys. If the packaging is sealed, then all of the above items can be left in the apartment, but ideally they are still taken out to the balcony or to another apartment. Clothes without packaging will not deteriorate, but will be saturated with an extremely unpleasant odor for a long time.

All furniture, household appliances and large decor are moved away from the walls. The doors of cabinets and bedside tables are left open. Fire sensors are turned off, and if this is not possible, they are sealed with tape or covered with cling film. When fumigating an entire apartment, it is necessary to close the windows and the front door, and, on the contrary, leave the interior doors wide open.

At the next stage, a saucepan or metal basin is placed in the middle of the room, where the checker is placed. For greater safety, it can be placed on bricks or a metal sheet. A few minutes after lighting the wick, smoke will begin to emit, so you should leave the room as soon as possible. As a rule, the device smokes for about 5 minutes, and for the next couple of hours the smoke spreads throughout the apartment. When the toxic substance settles on all surfaces, it is time to ventilate the apartment. Typically, the burning time and the possibility of returning home are indicated in the instructions.

To do this, all windows and doors will have to be left open for a couple of hours. Return of household members is possible only after wet cleaning, although it is better not to let cats in until all poisoned insects have been collected. Since the smoke from the bomb does not destroy the eggs laid by the larvae, fumigation will need to be done again in a couple of weeks.

To prevent pests from moving to neighbors, it is necessary to promptly close the ventilation ducts with adhesive tape or masking tape. It also makes sense to tightly cover the shafts, for example, with mosquito nets. In addition, this action will maintain the concentration of the insecticide at a level, preventing some of the smoke from escaping through the ventilation.
